RARE FORM- NEW ALBUM OUT TODAY! →

Well it’s finally here. Album #2, “Rare Form” There’s so much I could say, but I really just want to let the music speak for itself. Written and recorded, produced and performed, and mixed in the year that will go down in history as the notable 2020. I’m proud of my work. And I’m grateful to all who helped me along the way. Special shoutouts to Michael Birnbryer, who played all the sax for me, and Dave Pensado, who showed me a great deal about mixing. I tried a lot of new things, I stepped outside my comfort zone, and most of all, I didn’t treat any of it too seriously, or at least tried to not! I wrote my songs. I recorded them. I moved on. Up until now, for me, this was rare form. Enjoy :)

"Christmas Lives in the Heart" (feat. Journey) →

I am a lover of Christmas: the season, the weather, the movies, and of course, the MUSIC. And I will forever try my hand at creating new, original Christmas songs, whether or not anyone is asking me for them haha! :) So here’s my song for this year, 2020. What a year. I was lucky enough to have my niece, Journey, in town at the same time I was recording it, and I was already entertaining the idea of having a female singer on it with me, so it was perfect timing! She’s a terrific singer (she’s 17!), and we had some fun recording it.

"Lorraine" streaming nowwwww →

Lorraine is an angel. This song is a fantasy story of a boy who needs all the structures of the world to fall in order to reach the girl he believes he loves. He won’t know until he reaches her. Is it worth sacrificing the world as he knows it?

The artwork is very special to me. It’s an oil on canvas painted by the magnificent Lorraine Christie. And it hangs on my wall as I speak :) I had it commissioned especially for this song. It speaks to me in so many ways, not the least of which is its color.

"TRUST ME" →

Out now is “Trust Me.” This song was inspired after seeing the movie, Marriage Story, in November 2019. It was a matinee at The Vista theater in Loz Feliz. Seems like such an ancient memory now, since I haven’t been to a theater in about 6 months. But they showed the movie in 35mm, and there’s a spiritual feel that I tend to get from projected light shining through film. I like to think our brains are more active when watching a movie on film, because it’s constantly having to fill in the gaps between the pictures to create the continuous motion. I like to think that anyhow. But I had that calm, contemplative feeling I so often get after attending the theater on a solo trip. What I took from it was how love still remains even after it’s gone.

“Trust me, despite the things I never came through on.” Real love is truly unconditional. Can we prepare ourselves to love unconditionally? Or does it just happen naturally? Like all things, I believe it’s a little of both.

"Caught in the Middle" is now streamingggggg →

Well, the next one is here…”Caught in the Middle”- which is just about how I feel right now. The middle isn’t such a bad place to be, though. If you were to ask me what this song was about, I would probably say it’s about doing the work, each day, no matter what. When I do for myself what needs to be done, I feel good. My confidence grows and the depression stays far far away. And when the work has been done, according to my capacity, it’s also time to stop, and take a break, and assess. That constant back and forth, and the awareness it can take to know where you are in this cycle, is a balance, a middle ground. And when I’m there, I’m at peace. Like I said, not such a bad place to be.

"Ok to Go" single available to stream! →

I’m writing from my new studio in Altadena, CA, and I am so excited to start making new music here. In a weird way, my songs have always seemed to be a few steps ahead of me in life. Hmmmm, I wonder how that happens :) The phrase “Ok to Go” was part of a climactic scene in the movie Contact, which I watched just a few weeks ago in early quarantine. Jodie Foster’s character is terrified yet unmoved in her destined decision to take off in the alien-designed spaceship. What’s happening all around her is loud, unexpected, and worst of all…NEW! But she displays courage as she shouts back to mission control over and over, “I am okay to go. Okay to go. I am okay to go!” Well, I was certainly inspired by this moment as well as looking for an angle to approach the newest tune. From there, it chartered its own course. This is a song about courage. About faith. About stepping out into the unknown, and knowing that it’s okay.

"Try Not To Say It" is released today :) →

I really enjoyed producing this one. The lyrics are short and have a repetitive, meditative feel. A good tune to check out into. It’s really about falling for someone that you ultimately can’t be with. And obviously, I ripped off the Home Alone logo for the cover art. I’m very proud of THAT.
